Sugar Snap and Sugar Daddy Peas still alive in the desert heat in May? Yes they are!

This is the post my customer sent me and posted in several FB groups in AZ.

So the high has been at or over 100°F every day this week. However, the sugar snap and sugar daddy peas are still alive and producing pea pods.
I am 100% convinced it's because of four things:
1) the auto-fill ollas from Cutting Edge Ceramics (https://cutting-edge-ceramics.myshopify.com/.../bucket-of...
), which provide a constant, never-ending supply of water to the roots, like hydroponics, but without the hassle of constantly dealing with pH and fertilizers.
2) Grow bags that wick moisture away, breathe, and cool the roots.
3) Garden hay (or any type of mulch honestly) that keeps the sun from beating down on the top of the soil, preventing evaporation and elevated temperatures.
4) My version of Gary's Top Pot from Laguna Hills Nursery in Santa Ana, CA (I'm cheap), with zero compost around the roots, preventing root rot and anaerobic conditions at the root level. I do use compost and fertilizers in the top 2 inches or so, but the root zone is a silica-based medium. Google him and watch any of his 'what soil is best' videos on YouTube.
