Olla Bottle with Lid
Our tall version of the Olla. The Olla bottle comes in three sizes. 10" 12" and 14" x 3" Dia. With up to 85% less water used than traditional methods. Made of 100% domestically sourced terra cotta clay and manufactured in Tucson Az USA. The tops and lids are glazed with a lead free glaze as to protect them from oxidation and premature decomposition. Completely non toxic and safe for organic gardening. This is an ancient way of watering your plant manually, and not having to rely on automatic drip, or hand watering your plant. The roots will take what they want from the Olla. You just need to check it from time to time to refill the water. It's very handy not only for saving water, but getting water to a plant, tree or bush that you can't tend to with traditional drip, sprinklers or hose. Before full saturation, The 10" holds approximately 6 cups of water, 12'' approximately 8 cups and the 14" approximately 10 cups. You will want to fill the size of your choice with water, and go back after a minute or two and top it off as needed with more water. Water seeps through the walls of the unglazed olla, the soil absorbs the moisture and the roots of the surrounding plants will attach and drink as they wish. Bury the Olla with enough of the neck exposed so that the soil and mulch do not wash into the pot. We have found that leaving 2-3 inches above ground/mulch level has worked well. It is an efficient method, since little water is lost to evaporation or run-off. You can also use synthetic fertilizers such as a hydroponic type as it will pass through the bottle with the water. We do not recommend organic fertilizers in the bottle as they will become anaerobic and clog the pours. Customers love the design as they take up little precious garden space. They are also easily removed as to inspect root health and to organically fertilize. The removable design also allows for seasonal garden redo's and winterization.
